Brian K. Boyd

Brian K. Boyd was born to Jack and Patricia Boyd on August 4, 1965. The third child of six, Brian quickly found his path forward in the gang winning the hearts of many with his big baby blues. From a young age living as a small hometown boy, he used his negotiating skills to trade marbles and baseball cards. He showcased his academics in high school, was voted to escort the homecoming queen and worked full time at the local Pizza Hut to ensure he could drive his love of a sports car. He was always a small hometown boy at heart, but had an urge to do more with his life and joined the US Air Force after dropping out of college because he found sitting too boring. Everything Brian did showcased his drive and leadership. He served in Desert Storm working as an EMT and Firefighter training others and was subsequently promoted to a leadership position that would take him all over the world recruiting top medical professionals. Chief Master Sergeant Boyd had direct oversight of nine recruiters covering nineteen states with his superior describing him as “sharp as a tack”. Brian often spoke to ROTC students and reminded them that nothing in life was easy, but their commitment to getting the job done would be showcased in the end. While work was important to Brian, he also believed in the concept of “work hard, play harder” and did so with his three boys Shawn, Corey and Kevin. His ex-wife, Pam, of 21 years, helped to keep him and all three boys in line with a multitude of activities. Whether it was organizing neighborhood football games where he played as the all-time QB, hitting the local pond to catch some bass, or crowding around the TV to play Tecmo Super Bowl on his Super Nintendo. Brian was a true lover of music, and at any given moment, the likes of Alan Jackson, George Strait, George Jones, and more could be playing for everyone to hear. This coincided many times with a family cookout on the back porch, where Brian loved to experiment with new grilling recipes while enjoying an Ice-Cold Bud Light. The most sacred of days was Sunday, when you could find Brian somewhere losing his voice while watching the Bengals. He often brought along his family to watch the games with him, and frequently embarrassed them with his antics in public, but we wouldn't trade those moments for the world. When Brian wasn’t with his kids, he parked his “big self” at his sister Kim’s house and competed with her on cooking skills while devoting hours to the rest of the family; Krystal fixing or replacing his phone and giving Vinnie plenty of love and playtime. Jim, like a second father to Brian, always spent time arguing over the Bengals score and outcome and had been a victim to Brian’s Tecmo Bowl game in earlier years where they competed for hours. Life has a way of circling back and in Brian’s case that is exactly what took place in the last two years when he picked up right where he left off in junior high after reconnecting with his sweetheart, Kim. They were off and running making memories with road trips and always hanging out on game day with their football friends at Robe’s Pub. In September of 2022, Brian and Kim married on the beach in Ormond, Florida with friends and family attending and celebrating their rekindled love. Brian has won the hearts of many with his spirit of compassion and life-long never knowing a stranger mentality. After living a big life in his short 57 years, he was called home to heaven to carry out his next mission on December 21st, 2022. In addition to his parents and grandparents, Brian was preceded in death by his siblings Ronald, Kevin and Dotty. Celebrating his life and legacy are his wife and best friend Kim Boyd, his sons Kevin Boyd, Corey Welch, Shawn (Brianna) Welch, granddaughter Sophie, his bonus children Lindsay Valentine, Ryan Valentine, Tyler Smith-Valentine, his sisters Kim (Jim) Lafferty and Tricia Boyd, his all-time supporter and niece Krystal (Ben) Barbour and great nephew Vinnie, his favorite Aunt Barb (Bob) Farmer, his 17-year family pet, Wendy, along with many other extended and cherished family members. Memorial visitation will be at Bundy-Law Funeral Home on Friday, December 30th from 11 am to 1 pm with the service to begin at 1 pm. Pastor Dee Ryan will officiate. Military Honors will be conducted by the Guernsey County Veterans Council in the Bundy-Law parking lot. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Guernsey County Humane Society.
