John Arthur Marling

John Arthur Marling, 90, of Zanesville passed into God's loving hands on January 18, 2012. He was born on February 12, 1921 in Kimbolton, OH to Arthur Weedon and Bessie Merril Martin Marling. John enjoyed the country living that his parents provided for him and his siblings. He followed the tradition of his father's chosen occupation and sucessfully managed the Marling Dairy Farm in McCleary's Mill, later moving his family to Muskingum county and successfully managing that farm with the help of two of his sons- Russell and Mark. John married his one true love, Mary Alice Tidrick Marling on June 23, 1948. Together they emulated a strong faith and work ethic, always showing appreciation to all family members and friends alike. Along with his loving wife, John is survived and honored by eight children: Connie (Bob) Oyster of Columbus, Sharon (Randy) Russell of Norwich, Russell (Leslie) Marling of Norwich, Curtis (DeDe) Marling of Zanesville, Mark (Liz) Marling of Estero, Florida, Dean (Kristi) Marling of Zanesville, William (Barb) Marling of Zanesville, and Nancy (Jeff) Morabeto of Dublin, OH. John is also survived by his beloved grandchildren - Jennifer Oyster (Kevin) Schoedinger of Upper Arlington, OH., Jonathan Oyster of Columbus, step-grandson Jeff (Lisa) Oyster and their daughters, Bea, Caroline and Matilde of Oahu, HI, Nicole Addis and her daughter Cassie of Zanesville, Kristy Addis and her children Katie and Kole of Zanesville, Natalie Marling (Jonathan) Brooks and their son Micah of Zanesville, Janelle and Kelsey Marling of Norwich, Tyler Marling and( fiance' Hannah Hoopes) and Taylor Marling all of Zanesville, Jason Marling of Zanesville, Amy Marling (Sean) McIntosh and their children Sydney and Landon of Florida, Jared (Julie) Marling, John Mark (Lesley) Marling all of Seattle, WA., Annie Marling of Joplin, MO., Cory Marling, Wesley Marling (fiance' Lyndsay Buchanan), Nathan Marling, Brandon Marling and Cody Marling all of Zanesville, step-grandsons Nathan (Heidi) Ellis of Boulder, CO., and Andrew Murphy of Zanesville, step-granddaughter Jessie (Jeff) Harden and their son Elliott of Lansing, MI., Allie Fleer and step-grandsons Nathan and Matthew Morabeto all of Dublin, OH. John throughout his lifetime had a deep appreciation for music, and he eagerly encouraged his children to pursue and enjoy the art. John and Mary Alice's 8 children honored their parents on numerous occasions with musical presentations during worship services at New Concord United Methodist Church. Two of their 8 children, Sharon and William (Barb) have given of their talents and provide musical entertainment to nursing homes, assisted living centers and various appreciative venues. These gifts of talent gave John immeasurable pleasure. John and Mary Alice were members of North Salem United Presbyterian Church in North Salem, Ohio for 45 years. When they moved to their second farm in Muskingum County, due to the development of Salt Fork Lake, they joined the New Concord United Methodist Church in 1966 until the present. John was a cherished friend and beloved member of his church. John was proceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Bessie Marling, his sister Marie Caldwell, his sister Stella Beggs and her husband Charlie, his sister Winifred and her husband Curtis, and his great grandchild Christopher Miller. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Mary Alice, his 8 children and their families his sister Edith Stewart and her husband Blair, his brother Paul Marling and many nieces, nephews and friends. John was a 1939 graduate of Madison High School. He served his country while in the Navy, member of the New Concord Lion's Club, a former member of the Guernsey County Farm Bureau, the National Farmer's Organization, and a present member of the New Concord United Methodist Church Joy Class. John's family would like to extend a special thanks to his Joy Class friends, his neighbors, and friends and caregivers who touched his heart throughout his life. A special thanks to the loving care that he was shown at Emeritus of North Hills as well as the caring team of Hospice. The family will receive friends at Bundy-Law Funeral Home in Cambridge, Ohio on Friday January 20,2012 from 4:00 to 7:00. A memorial service will be conducted by Rev. Steve Sullivan at the New Concord United Methodist Church on Saturday January 21, 2012 at 2:00 P.M.. Interment will follow at Saint Paul Lutheran Cemetery. Contributions in John's memory can be made to the New Concord Methodist Church or the Salvation Army.
