Donald Gelette Canaday, Sr.

Donald Gelette Canaday, Sr. age 77 of Cambridge, Ohio passed away Saturday, September 20, 2003 at The Ohio State University Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio. He was born January 2, 1926 in Henry County, IN the fourth of five sons. Donald was retired from W.R. Grace Agricultural Marketing and Consulting Firm in 1988 after 35 years of service. A member of Christ Lutheran Church in Cambridge. Served in the U.S. Air Force in Italy during WW II and as a 2nd Lt. in the Army during the Korean War. He was a graduate of Hagerstown IN High School in 1943. A graduate of The University of Nebraska in 1951 and did Graduate Work at Ohio University in Zanesville. Served on Cambridge City Council, two terms 1974 - 1978. Hazmat Officer for The City of Cambridge EPA 1989 - 1993. Consultant, International Executive Service Corp. 1993 - presant, serving in Egypt and Romania. Founding Commandant, Legion of Fusilliers at University of Nebraska. Founder with John Mark Nicholson, The Celtic Society of Southeastern Ohio, serving 2nd term as Commissioner. Served as Chief of the Kennedy Society of North America for 14 years. Boy Scout Volunteer for 35 years. Past President of the Eastern Ohio Forage Institute. Past President of the Gunernsy County Historical Society. Past Master of Masonic Lodge #632 F & AM of Cambridge and served as Lodge Educational Officer for several years. High Priest of Chapter #53 - Illustriuos Master of Council #74 - Commander of Commandry #47. 32nd degree Scottish Rite Valley of Cambridge - He worked in the Robe room at the Scottish Rite Reunions. Kentucky Colonel. Cambridge Chapter, Lions International Past Commodore, Land O Lakes Yacht Club. Executive Committee, Clan Mac Millan. Mr. Canaday is preceded in death by his parents Lyndsey E. Canaday and A. Marea Bockhofer Canaday. Two brothers. Donald is survived by his wife M. Bernice Ripley Canaday whom he married November 21, 1945 in Lincoln, NE. One daughter, Mrs. William Laura Perkinson of Newport News, VA. Two sons Donald Jr. and Monika Canaday of Nierstein, Germany and John L. and Denise Canaday of Georgetown, IN. Two brothers, Denver and Noriko Canaday of Everett, WA and Harold Canaday of Satsuma, FL. Aunt Florence and Uncle Cleo Parrish nimerous cousins. Five grandchildren, Stefanie, Terence, Andrew, James & Amy. Friends may call Tuesday Sept. 23, 2003 at Bundy-Law Funeral Home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 where there will be a Masonic Funeral Service at 7:00 P.M. Tuesday evening at the Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will take place at 4:00 P.M. Wednesday evening at the Funeral Home. A graveside service will be in Willow grove Cemetery in Fountain City, IN at 1:00 P.M. Thursday Sept. 25, 2003, burial will follow.
