Helen Barbush Nicolozakes

Helen Barbush Nicolozakes, 81, formerly of Cambridge, Ohio, passed away peacefully Saturday, March 5, 2016, at 8:53 PM. at West View Healthy Living's Bridges Unit, Wooster, Ohio, surrounded by her family, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's. She was born January 28, 1935 in Weirton, West Virginia to Gus and Aspasia (Mandakas) Barbush (Bourbakis) who emmigrated from Chania, Crete, Greece. She was a graduate of Follansbee High School and received her nursing degrees from West Virginia University and West Liberty State College. Helen was a respected surgical nurse at Weirton General Hospital, prior to leaving her career to dedicate herself to her husband and children. She was married to the late William G. Nicolozakes on January 7, 1968, and is survived by her son, Dr. Alexandros W. (Heather) Nicolozakes and grandchildren, Constantine and Athanasios of Wooster, Ohio, and son, Attorney William A. (Elena) Nicolozakes and grandchildren Marina Eleni and William C. of Zanesville, Ohio. She is preceded in death by her brother, Dr. William M. (Cleo) Barbush of Annapolis, Maryland, and is also survived by her sister, Goldie (Demetri) Moutsatsos of Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, and close cousin, Chrystal (Thomas) Bennett of Charleston, West Virginia. Helen was a devout Greek Orthodox Christian and member of Zoodochos Peghe (Life Giving Fountain) Greek Orthodox Church and St. James Philoptochos Women's Organization of Cambridge, Ohio. She was also active in the WIC organization of Guernsey County, among other charitable organizations, and enjoyed equestrian activities, tennis, golf, water skiing, figure skating, and oil painting. She was an avid reader, skilled cook and especially enjoyed baking. She was a fan of Ohio State, traveling and the arts. Helen was a tireless supporter of her family in all that was done. Her sense of humor served her well--never taking herself too seriously, she laughed often and took things in stride. An affectionate mother and devoted wife who adored her husband, she lived a wonderful life--She loved and was loved. Calling hours will be at Bundy Law Funeral Home, 120 North 11th St., Cambridge, Ohio, 43725, on Friday, March 11, 2016, from 4:00pm till 8:00pm with Trisagion Service to be held at 7:00 pm. Burial services will be held at Zoodochos Peghe Greek Orthodox Church, 314 North 5th St., Martins Ferry, Ohio, 43935, on Saturday, March 12, 2016 at 11:00am. Friends may call from 10am till time of service at the church, interment at Northwood Cemetery in Cambridge to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Zoodochos Peghe Greek Orthodox Church. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the incredible staff of the Bridges Unit at West View Healthy Living for their loving and compassionate care of Yiayia.
