Toney Lee Oakley

Father God welcomed his faithful son, Toney Lee Oakley (83), to his eternal life in heaven on August 2, 2024. Toney left this earth in his home continuously surrounded by his loving family. Toney was born on January 24, 1941 to the late Rass Sr. and Darlene (Baer) Oakley Richardson in Carey’s Run, Sciotoville, Ohio. In November 1964, Toney met the love of his life, Cynthia Rae Hoots, and then later wed on May 1, 1965. In addition to his wife of 59 years, Toney leaves two daughters, Lori Lee (Jon) Moorehead and Kellie Rae (Tim) Brown. Additionally, he is survived by grandchildren, Taylor Fillbach, Tanner (Lyndsey) Moorehead, Brandon (Haley) Brown, Samie Brown, great-grandchildren Xayia Moorehead, Oakley Fillbach, Boston Moorehead, sister-in-law Teddy Ball, step-brother John (Jennifer) Oakley and many nieces and nephews. Toney began working at the age of 14 to support his mother and brothers. He first was a farm hand during the week and changed tires for Roadway on the weekend. Many friends will recall Toney’s time bartending and bouncing (for those who got a little rowdy) at the CasaLoma in Cambridge. Once married, Toney became a heavy equipment operator out of the Operator’s Union Local 18. His career included working for Andy Smith, Harold Davis and finishing his career with the Guernsey County Highway Department. Toney was a proud member of the Cambridge Elks 448 (serving as a past trustee), Cambridge Eagles 386, Cambridge Moose, and the Kentucky Colonels. In addition to his parents and step-father Don (Ribs) Richardson, Toney is preceded in death by his brothers, Rass Jr and Don, his in-laws Thomas and Dale Hoots, sister-in-law, Sharon Oakley, and brother-in-law, Larry Ball. Toney loved first and foremost his family and enjoyed being involved in every part of his grandchildren’s lives. He loved spending time at Seneca Lake, enjoying a cold beer around the campfire, and playing euchre. Toney never knew a stranger and would help anyone who asked. He was loved by everyone and considered a gentle giant. This world lost a bit of sparkle but heaven is shining a little brighter now. Visitation will be at Bundy-Law Funeral Home on Monday, August 5, 2024 from 3pm to 6 pm with his funeral service to begin at 6 pm, officiated by Jimmy Sylvis. Graveside services will take place on Tuesday at 11 am at Northwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Faith United Methodist Church or the Hospice of Guernsey.
