Betty Eileen Slay, age 93 of Cambridge, passed away on Wednesday, December 2, 2020. She was born in Newcomerstown to the late Fred and Clara Jacops Ausmus. As a child she lived atop the Winding Stairs hill near Newcomerstown and the Rock Hill area of Cambridge. Her family also owned and operated a restaurant at the Shady Bend Manor, Newcomerstown. Betty was a 1945 graduate of Cambridge High School and was retired from the NCR Corporation. She previously worked at Roger’s Grocery Store in Eastlake; and Sipe’s Chevrolet, the Cambridge Bureau of Motor Vehicles (where she met her husband Bob), Sidlow’s Home Telephone Company, and the Guernsey Restaurant, all located in Cambridge. She was a long time member of Christ United Methodist Church; the Golden Sixties and Grange #1586. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Robert Slay; four brothers, Kenneth (Neale), James (Eileen), Robert, and Roger (Dorothy); three sisters, Katherine (Rex) DeHart, Marjorie (Robert) Maxon, and Lois (Clyde) Hissom. She is survived by one brother John David (Terri) and by her children, Marilee (Dr. Terry) Litton, Mark Slay, and Nancie (Mark) Bevilacqua; grandchildren Jessica (Dan), Kyle, and Kenny; great-grandchildren, Amelia, Adeline, Oliver and Gage and numerous cousins, nephews and nieces. Graveside services will be held at Northwood Cemetery on Monday, December 7, 2020 at 1 pm. Pastors Wib Bragg and Sturman Moore will officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Christ United Methodist Church 2167 North Avenue Cambridge, Ohio 43725. Covid precautions are to be taken.
