Christine Lynn Gilfillan

July 13, 1950 - February 27, 2022

Christine Lynn Gilfillan (born Yontz), cherished wife, mother, nana, and sister died on February 27, 2022, at 71 years old, surrounded by those who loved her in Flower Mound, Texas. She was born the oldest daughter of six children on July 13, 1950 to Paul and Barbara Yontz and raised in Cambridge, Ohio. She shared most of her life with Joseph Gilfillan, also of Cambridge, meeting in high school and married for 49 years. Chris was a loving mother of three daughters, Amy Gilfillan (married to Peter Thompson), Lisa Gilfillan (married to Walter Zelhofer), and Stacy Gilfillan (married to Thomas Griffiths). She was the doting grandmother to Stell Gilfillan Griffiths, Lilian Zelhofer, Maren Thompson, and soon-to-be-born baby Zelhofer. She graduated from Guernsey Central Catholic High School (class of 1968) and attained a nursing degree from the Akron City Hospital, Idabelle Firestone School of Nursing in 1972. She was a natural at nursing and provided care in a variety of specialties which included post-surgery recovery in Columbus, Ohio and the last ten years of her career in obstetrics and gynecology in Elyria, Ohio. We will remember Chris for her curious and intelligent nature, a person who never stopped learning and tenaciously pursued something until she perfected it. She was an avid reader, words were her passion and when paired with her quick wit, she delivered legendary one-liners still used by her family years later. She was a creative person, who could turn her hand to anything and enjoyed painting, baking, cooking, gardening, sewing, and crafting among other things. She traveled with her husband and family, including trips to Hawaii, California, France, Italy and the UK. Despite living in Texas for the past 20 years she remained a proud and supportive Buckeye, never missing an opportunity to shout "Go Bucks!" wherever she was in the world. More than anything, she cherished spending time with her family and sharing in their lives. She was the heart of the family and relied on as a sounding board. She was fiercely loyal and enriched her family's lives through the traditions she handed down. Whether it was a wry smile, a sharp and witty joke or freshly baked cookie, she always found a way to make you feel special. She is survived by her sisters Paula Sweigart, Pamela Stein, Mary 'Nanette' Bishop, and her brother Mark Yontz. She was loved like a sister by her Gilfillan family- including those who survive her- Diane, Mary, Michael, Elizabeth, and Patrick. She is preceded in death by her sister Marcia Pollock, her parents, her parents-in-laws Joseph and Patricia Gilfillan, brothers-in-law Thomas and David Gilfillan, and sister-in-law Stella Sammons. Visitation will be held at the Bundy-Law Funeral Home in Cambridge, Ohio on Friday, March 4, 2022 from 2-4 & 7-9 pm. A funeral mass will be held at Christ Our Light Parish in Cambridge on Saturday March 5th at 2:00 PM with Father Paul Hrezo officiating with burial to follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. For those who cannot attend, the mass will be live-streamed , please connect via the Christ Our LIght Parish , Facebook Page. Donations in her name can be made to Wild Coast, Lungevity, St. Jude Children's Hospital and the Salvation Army, charities that Chris supported throughout her lifetime.
