April 21, 1946 - February 11, 2021
Larry Richard Brill 1946 - 2021 Larry Richard Brill, devoted and doting father and grandfather and retired State Farm Insurance Agent of forty-five years, died February 11th, 2021 at Cleveland Clinic Akron General, surrounded by his loving wife and family. He was 74. Born April 21, 1946 in Zanesville, Ohio, to the late Richard Vincent Brilland Freda Hutchison Brill. Larry grew up on Chestnut Hill Road near Kimbolton, and attended Cambridge City schools. In the NROTC program Ohio University in Athens, he graduated with a degree in Business Administration. His Navy career included flight training in Pensacola, Florida followed by time as a flight-scheduler at Naval Air Station Alameda in California. As he and Judy built their life together in Cambridge, Ohio, Larry was very involved in the community including Kiwanis Club (past president), Boy Scouts (Assistant Scoutmaster and Eagle Scout Board of Review Chair) the YMCA Board and The Dickens Festival Committee. He was proud to have donated blood to the American Red Cross over 230 times. Larry is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife, Judith Brill, and their children: Eric Brill (wife Linda, children Hallie, Noah, and Ian); Corey Brill (wife Joy, children Chloe, Soon and Wallace); and Kelly DeLuca (husband Domonic, children Angelo, Leonardo, Rocco and Gino); brothers David Brill (wife, Jill) and William Brill (Molly); and many in-laws, nieces and nephews, and family. Like many other couples from that time, Larry and Judy met at a Park Dance at the Big Pavilion in 1963. He walked her home because he worried she wouldn't be allowed to ride in his car which immediately endeared him to her parents. This was the start of a love story that lasted over 52 years. What a wonderful father and grandfather Larry Brill was. He supported all of his children's varied passions and pursuits no matter what they were. And as grandchildren came along he loved spending time with them. Tennis was one of his passions. He loved his time at the Cambridge City Park tennis courts with his regular crew of doubles partners and he passed the love for the sport to his children who all played on the varsity team and continue to play to this day. In addition to tennis he loved sailing, vacations at Holden Beach NC, telling wonderful jokes and stories, giving wonderful hugs and quietly helping others. Larry had a way of making those around him feel truly heard. If you knew him, you loved him. He treated friends, clients and strangers as family - it wouldn't have occurred to him to do differently. A man of few words, he was a friend to everyone out of the kindness of his heart, never for any recognition. For the rest of their lives his family will be hearing stories of how he helped and touched others without anyone else knowing. Larry had a kind and gentle presence that made everyone around him feel comfortable and accepted. Throughout his life his goodness never waned. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. He would always say that if he ever came back, he’d like it to be as a pelican. So next time you’re at the ocean, look up. A memorial service will be planned in the coming months. Donations can be made to Cleveland Clinic, Cambridge YMCA or Cambridge Kiwanis Foundation at P.O. Box 1757, Cambridge, OH 43725. Condolences may be sent to www.bundy-lawfuneralhome.com.
