July 20, 1939 - September 24, 2021
On September 24, 2021 Lowell E. Thomas (82) was surrounded by his loving family who sang to him as he was welcomed by his heavenly father. He was born at home near Center, on July 20, 1939, the last of six children of the late Merrill A., and Edna G. Thomas. In addition to his parents, Lowell was preceded in death by his siblings: June (Clark) Armstrong, Billy (Roberta) Thomas, Betty, (Jim) Ronshausen, and Patsy (Jack) Jones, as well as his mother-in-law, Alma Kokubun who thought Lowell hung the moon. Lowell made the decision at the age of 18 to join the Air Force and served his country for 20 years. During this time he met the love of his life, De, at church in Wiesbaden, Germany. December 2 of this year would have been their 60th wedding anniversary. Lowell retired a second time from Branthoover & Johnston after 24 years as a plumbing clerk. He loved his church and was a life long member of First Christian Church in Cambridge, OH where he served his Lord as Board Chair, Elder, Choir member, CMF member and most recently Trustee. Lowell loved to watch old westerns and sports, but his greatest passion was singing. He became a Barbershopper at age 16 and loved it so much, he never stopped. He was especially proud of his "woodshedding" badge. Lowell belonged to two choruses: The Chordials here in Cambridge, and The Y-City Barbershoppers in Zanesville, plus he sang in a quartet called Popular Demand. He also participated in the Lions shows, and in theater at the local Performing Arts Center. One great joy was to play the part of Caiaphas at the Living Word Outdoor Amphitheater giving witness to the Lord for over 40 years. He enjoyed calling bingo for the folks at the Senior Center. Those left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife Dagmar (De) Thomas, and son's Lowell (Lee) Jr. (Diana) Thomas of Georgetown, KY, Eric (Angie) Thomas of Cambridge, OH, Darren Thomas of Calhoun, GA, and daughter Chari (Charlie) Roberts of Senecaville, OH. Lowell has ten grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Lastly, is his only surviving sibling, his dear brother, Leonard Thomas whom he looked up too and cherished. His family and his God meant everything to Lowell. He will be greatly missed. Memorial contributions can be made in Lowell's honor to the First Christian Church or Feed My People both of Cambridge, OH. Friends may call from 11 am till 2 pm Thursday September 30, 2021 at The Living Word Outdoor Amphitheater, 6010 College Hill Rd., Cambridge, OH 43725. The Funeral Service will be at 2 pm Thursday at the Living Word Outdoor Amphitheater with Pastor Catrina Hawkins-Bowles officiating. Burial to follow at Guernsey Memory Gardens Cemetery.
