Alma Lea Bates, age 88 of Cambridge, passed away on Saturday, March 9, 2019 at Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center. She was born in Noble County on June 28, 1930, a daughter of the late Edward McVicker and Edith (Starr) McVicker.
Mrs. Bates was a 1949 Graduate of Cambridge Business College. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Pisgah and most recently in New Concord. She was a homemaker and enjoyed crocheting, sewing and cooking. But most of all, spending time with her family.
Alma is preceded in death by her husband Everett B. Bates on March 11, 2017, they were married on April 11, 1952. Also preceded by two brothers, David and Ray McVicker.
She leaves: three children, Stephen (& Debbie) Bates of Canal Winchester, Brent (& Ila) Bates of Tullahoma, TN and Kathy (& Brent) Doutt of Cambridge; six grandchildren, Shawn (& Kristy) Bates, Ryan (& Shathar) Bates, Bryan (& Heather) Bates, Melanie (& Peter) McGraw, Justin (& Julie) Doutt and Erin (& Eric) Davis; eight great grandchildren, Ayden, Levi, Toby, C.J. Langston, Collison, Hayden and Marshall; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at Bundy-Law Funeral Home on Friday, March 15, 2019 from 10 am to 12 pm with her service beginning at 12 pm. Evangelist Terry Townsend will officiate with burial to follow in Guernsey County Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the New Concord Church of Christ.
