Charles Samuel Laughman, age 73, of Lore City, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on October 1, 1952, in Gastonia, North Carolina, a son of the late Robert H. Laughman and Frances B. (Bryson) Morrow.
Charles was a 1971 graduate of Madison High School. Following graduation, he worked for Chester Gray building barns and later for Wilson Brothers in Cambridge. He then began what would become a 28-year career at Salt Fork State Park, where he worked in many departments and took great pride in serving the park and its visitors.
An avid outdoorsman, Charles was one of the original members of the Old Washington Coon Hunters Club and a member of the Guernsey County Sportsman's Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, and occasionally bowling in a local league. He also had a love for farming and gardening and took pleasure in selling his produce. In later years, following his liver transplant, he rarely missed an auction or yard sale. Charles and his wife also cherished their lunch dates with the Madison High School Class of 1969.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 51 years, Catherine Arlene (Smith) Laughman; his children, Nathan (Jennifer) Laughman, Curt (Jennifer) Laughman, and Carolyn (Michael) Moses; his grandchildren, Dalton Laughman, Tyler Hostutler, Kohlton Channell, and Gage Laughman; his beloved granddog, Annie; his sister, Beverly Jane Touvell of Gastonia, North Carolina; his aunt, Margaret "Peggy" Moorhead; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Robert William "Sonny" Laughman, Louise Parker, and Tommy Gaither.
A memorial celebration of Charles' life will be held at Old Washington Cemetery on Friday, February 20, 2026, at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Guernsey, P.O. Box 1165, Cambridge, Ohio 43725.
