Charles C. Sylvis age 75 of Cambridge passed away May 29, 2012 at his home. He was born on June 3, 1936 in Wheeling, the son of late Charles E. Sylvis and Wilma L. (Carroll) Sylvis.
Mr. Sylvis was a 1954 graduate of Wheeling / McKinley High School. He was a member of the Ninth Street United Methodist Church and the Elks. Charles served his country in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1962 then was the owner and operator of King Karpet Inc. in Cambridge for over 40 years. He enjoyed bowling and golf,was an avid Pirates and Steelers fan, played on the Ninth Street Church softball team and was an S -guage train enthusiast.
He is survived by: wife, Mitzi Von (Smith) Sylvis, they were married in 1967; son, Charles H. (Lynn M.) Sylvis of Scenery Hill, PA, and their children Charles M. Sylvis, Christopher G. Sylvis, Philip V. Spina, Eric P. Spina, and Marc D. Spina; daughter, Cathy Lynn (Tim) McBride of Fayetteville, GA and their children, Mathew James McBride, Ashley E. McBride, Jacob R. McBride; son Gregory W. (Julie) Sylvis and their children Joey D. (Sammi) Sylvis, and Kelly S. Sylvis; son, Jimmy R. (Debby) Sylvis of Cambridge and their children Hunter J. Sylvis, Steeler V. Sylvis, Smith C. Sylvis, Brynn C. Valentine and Jaden R. Valentine and a step-mother Stella Sylvis of Wheeling, and two great grandchildren; two sister-in-laws Carol Ann Smith of Wheeling and Linda (Roger) Caynor of Wheeling.
Visitation will be on Friday, June 1, 2012 from 2 to 7 pm at Bundy-Law Funeral Home. The service will be at 11am on Saturday, June 2, 2012 with Pastor Karen Rawlins officiating. Burial will follow in Northwood Cemetery where military graveside rites will be performed by the Guernsey County Veterans Council.
