Obituary

Duane C. Murdock, age 102 of Cambridge, passed away on Wednesday, February 8, 2023 at his home. He was born in Coshocton, Ohio on April 22, 1920, a son of the late Abram W. Murdock and Althea F. (Pangle) Murdock.
Mr. Murdock was Methodist by faith. He had served his country in the U.S. Coast Guard and was stationed in Baltimore, Maryland during World War II. He had his bachelors in EDU from Muskingum College. He taught at Cambridge City Schools and retired in 1980 after 28 years of service. He was a teacher and a coach at Glass Plant Elementary and then later taught at Lincoln Elementary. He had a positive impact on many youth whom he taught. In retirement, he was a substitute rural mail carrier.
He was a former member of the Odd Fellows in Cambridge. Duane was an avid fisherman of Seneca Lake with news worthy catches of crappie and large mouth bass. He enjoyed hunting in his youth and reading in his later years.
He is preceded in death by: his parents; his wife Lois I. (Atkinson) Murdock, they were married for 66 years when she passed on March 29, 2009. Also deceased is a brother Victor Murdock; and two son in laws, Merle Whitis and Wm. Ronald Jackson.
Surviving are: three daughters, Diane (& Gary) Brown of Stonecreek, Elaine Jackson of Akron and Joyce Horton of Zanesville; three sons, Randall (& Kathy) Murdock of Sunbury, Neal Murdock of Cambridge and Brent Murdock of Cambridge; 12 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren, one great great grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at Northwood Cemetery on Saturday, February 11, 2023 at 11 am with Pastor Greg Black officiating. Military Honors will be conducted by the Guernsey County Veterans Council. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of Guernsey at P.O. Box 1165 Cambridge, Ohio 43725.
