Frank K. Leyshon of Cambridge died Wednesday morning, 12/6/2017 while preparing for a meeting of the Historical Preservation Committee, his passion for the downtown for the last several years.
He was born in Cambridge, the son and only child of Frank C. and Dorothy Carnel Leyshon. He graduated from Cambridge High School, Muskingum University and Ohio Northern University School of Law with a Doctor of Laws degree.
He served his country in the U S Army from 1955 to 1957 stationed in Japan. After returning to Cambridge from the army, he met and married his wife of 59 years, Judith "Judy" Mitchell Leyshon.
He is survived by his children: Frank A. and wife Julie of Florida, Martha Waddell of Cambridge, Robert of Illinois, and Chad of Cambridge. One son, Richard is deceased.
He also leaves his wonderful granddaughters, Roxanne Leyshon of Cleveland, Elizabeth "Beth" Waddell of Mississippi and Emilee Waddell of Cambridge. He also leaves two in-laws, Joyce Allen and Jack Mitchell and several nieces and nephews
He practiced law in Cambridge for 30 years, once serving as the Cambridge Law Director and retiring in 1993. He was very active in the Cambridge Kiwanis Club receiving the George F. Hixson Fellowship in 2015 and also his Church, Unity Presbyterian, having served as an Elder and a member of many committees through the years and currently serving on the Community Outreach Committee. Other activities included Land of Lakes Yacht Club to which he served as Commodore for two terms. Many pleasant hours were spent with family on Seneca Lake. He was a Director of the local chapter of the Red Cross, Trustee of the American Auto Association, President of M. A. R. C., Inc. and on the Board of Directors for Swan Estate, Inc. Over the years, he belonged to the Guernsey County Bar Association, Elks Club and VFW.
With his Father he co-authored three supplements of Leyshons' Ohio Practice Manuel published by the Anderson Publishing Company.
He always enjoyed traveling with family and boating. He started the Historic Preservation Committee for the benefit of history in his downtown and has currently been exploring the forming of a foundation to promote that end.
A Celebration of Life will be Tuesday, December 12th beginning with visitation at 6:00 p.m. and followed by the service at 7:00 .p.m. at Unity Presbyterian Church, 130 N. 7th Street, with The Rev. Jeffery D. Bergeson officiating.
