Freda Mae Kennedy, age 92, of Abilene, Texas passed away on Saturday, August 16, 2025. Freda was born in Portsmouth, OH.
Freda Mae Kennedy (Smith), 92, of Cambridge, Ohio passed peacefully away Saturday August 16, 2025, in the care of the Abilene Texas Hospice. She was born in Portsmouth, Ohio on September 19, 1932, to Ulrich B. Smith and Ferril G. Smith (Caudill).

Freda is survived by her husband of 70 years, Richard L. Kennedy, three children, Kyle Kennedy (Heidi), Kelly Dakoski (Mark), Shelly Reed (Jerry), three grandsons, Kayne Dakoski, Dustin Kennedy (Desra), Chad Kennedy (Jenny), three great grandchildren, Kayne Dakoski, Rayna Dakoski and Delaney Kennedy, two brothers Edward Schuler and William (Billy Joe) Smith and other beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her father, Ulrich B. Smith, her mother, Ferril G. Schuler, her stepfather Lester Schuler, and her sister Norma Jean Blevins.

Freda moved to Cambridge after graduating from Washington High School in West Portsmouth Ohio. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cambridge. She met her husband at the City Park Dance, and they married on February 19th, 1955. She worked at the Ohio Power Company, and after getting married she worked for financial companies, the Cambridge school district, a local attorney's office and she retired from the Department of Human Services as a social worker helping unwed mothers find resources. She and her husband assisted in providing dances for the Cambridge junior high and high school kids for many years at the YMCA and the City Park. In their early married years, she enjoyed riding horses together and later enjoyed breeding and raising rottweilers. She and her husband retired to Florida in 1993 to a retirement community and were involved in many activities with friends.

Freda loved being a wife and mother and providing a loving home. She was a kind sweet soul and will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
