Grace Irene Byers

Celebrating the life of Grace Irene Byers, age 97, of Cambridge, who died Monday, July 15, 2002, at Red Carpet Health Care, in Cambridge. Born on April 20, 1905, in Barnesville, to the late Fred C. Moore and Laura Anne Brokaw Moore, she lived on Clark Street in Cambridge for many years. Grace was the manager of Morton Millinery Store on Wheeling Ave. for over 40 years. She started there when she was 16 years old, graduated from Cambridge High School in 1923 and retired from the same job when she was 70. She was a member of the 1st United Methodist Church, in Cambridge, belonged to the N.L.C. Sunday School Class for over 60 years, was a Red Cross Volunteer at Guernsey Memorial Hospital for over 4000 hours, worked in the gift shop and was a member of wing 9 at the hospital. She was also a quilter for many years at the Guernsey County Senior Citizens Center. Grace was married on December 3, 1924, to her husband William Joseph Byers, who died in 1970. Surviving are: a daughter; Barbara Conrath Geese of Cambridge and Sun City, AZ., 4 grandchildren; Stephen W. Virginia Conrath of Gaffney, S.C., Thomas L. Cindy Conrath of North Ridgeville, OH., David M. Kim Conrath of Cambridge, OH., Susan B. Strickland of Carrollton, TX., 5 great grand children; Carri Ronald Moss of Gaffney, S.C., Phillip Angie Conrath of Cambridge, OH. Stephanie Scottie Scruggs of Gaffney, S. C., Abbe Conrath of Cambridge, OH., Cortney Strickland of Carrollton, TX, 5 great great grandchildren; Isabel, Elizabeth, Isaac, Jon and J.D., 4 -1st cousins; Gertrude Barrett, Harriett Gaskill, Edgar Henderson, Anna Hanse, and 2 special friends; Eleanor Hetzel, and Marge Gunn. Proceeding Grace in death is a sister Helen Rowland Gilbert, who was asst. Manager for Morton's in Cambridge, and 1 great great grandchild; Dru Scruggs. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 pm Thursday, July 18, 2002, with the service at 11:00am on Friday, July 19, 2002. Dr. Terry Litton will be conducting the service with burial following at Northwood Cemetery.
