Herbert L. Schlernitzauer, age 94 of Kimbolton, passed away on Thursday, April 11, 2024 at the home of his son in Canton. He was born on March 25, 1930 in Bellaire, Ohio, a son of the late Louis Schlernitzauer and Louise M. (Schade) Schlernitzauer.
Herb served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He received a Proclamation from the United States Congress on his 90th birthday recognizing his military service.
After his military service, he attended West Liberty State, Kent State, and graduated from The University of Akron with a Bachelor degree in history. He worked at Imperial Glass for several years. Later he was an engineer at Goodrich Tire. He spent some years living in Florida and worked construction before moving back to Ohio. Herb was a member of the Guernsey Lodge #66 F&AM. He enjoy gardening, planting trees, woodworking and hunting and fishing.
Herb is preceded in death by: his parents; a daughter Paulette Holland and his three siblings.
Surviving are: children, Timothy Schlernitzauer; Nanette Schlernitzauer and Mona Anderson; son-in-law Gregg Holland; six grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.
Visitation will be at Bundy-Law Funeral Home on Friday, April 19, 2024 from 10:30 am to 11:30 am. Funeral services will begin at 11:30 am, officiated by grandson Chad W. Schlernitzauer. Military Honors will be conducted by the Guernsey County Veterans' Council in the funeral home parking lot following the service. Burial and a graveside service will take place in Mount Calvary Cemetery in Bellaire, Ohio on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at 11 am. Herb's online guest book may be viewed and signed at
