James "Jim" H. Pethtel, age 88 of Cambridge, passed away on Monday, August 19, 2024 at Astoria Place. He was born in Antrim, Ohio on March 24, 1936, a son of the late Howard Pethtel and Helen Christine (Decker) Pethtel.
Jim was a 1956 graduate of Madison High School. He served his country in the U.S.Air Force from 1957 to 1960. Starting at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas and ending at Falmouth Air Force Base in Massachusetts.
Jim was a truck driver for Allied Van Lines before becoming the custodian at Oakland School for over 30 years. He was previously a member of the Free Methodist Church for 40 years, and had been a trustee, treasurer and on several committees. More recently, Jim had attended Christ Global Methodist Church since 2000. After retiring from Oakland School, he became the custodian at the church and he and his wife Betty worked with Grace Pantry for over 10 years.
Jim leaves: his wife of nearly 64 years, Betty (Phillips) Pethtel, they were married on October 18, 1960; a daughter Christine (Stephen) Saum of Cambridge; two grandchildren, Amanda Elizabeth (Mark) Masters of Cambridge and Jessica Louise (Robert) Johnston of Kimbolton; three great grandchildren, Aaliyah Elizabeth Steed, Blake Austin Steed and Reagan Louise Johnston; three brothers, William (Judy) Pethtel of Cambridge Jerry (Pati) Pethtel of Zanesville and Tim (Louann) Pethtel of Cambridge; and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by: his parents; a sister Mary Jane Matthews; and a grandson Joshua C. Shade.
Visitation will be at Bundy-Law Funeral Home on Friday August 23, 2024 from 4 to 6 pm and on Saturday August 24th from 1 to 2 pm with the service to begin at 2 pm. Pastor Frederick Osae-Manu will officiate. Private burial will take place in Northwood Cemetery on Monday. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Guernsey at P.O.
