James Wishart Hayhurst Sr., 87 of Cambridge, passed away on Sunday, March 30, 2025 at Cambridge Place. He was born in Antrim, Ohio on October 18, 1937, a son of the late Margaret (Wishart) and Perry Hayhurst.
Jim was a 1955 graduate of Madison High School and grew up on the family farm. After high school he hauled milk and pumped gas at a local station. He had worked at Vanadium, NCR and RCA, Montgomery Wards and Champion Spark Plug. After 34 years of service he retired from Champion in June of 2000. He showed American Saddlebred horses with the kids. He enjoyed riding motorcycles, square dancing and boating while the kids skied. He and his wife Carol were members of a ballroom dance club, founding members of SVRC horse club and they also had a photography business on the side. They took pictures of many weddings and some high school graduation pictures. Jim was a collector of model trains and keyrings. He enjoyed going to auctions and remodeling and working on projects around the farm.
Jim is preceded in death by: his parents; his wife Carol E. (Simmons) Hayhurst, whom he married on August 30, 1958, she died in December of 2020; a sister Lois McPherson; a brother Tom Hayhurst; and a sister-in-law Essie Hayhurst.
Surviving are: his children, Alison M. (& Doug) Hecker of Cambridge, James W. Hayhurst Jr. of Cambridge, Hollie M. (& Mark) Lashley of Cambridge and Amy L. (& Brian) Zuress of Byesville; nine grandchildren: Thomas Hecker, Robbie Hayhurst, Riley Hayhurst, Rusty Hayhurst, Dana Lashley, Kyle Lashley, Jesse Lashley, Zoe Zuress, Mike Zuress; his siblings, Ruth (& Paul) Tuttle, Martha (& George) Hammer Dave Hayhurst, and John (& Geri) Hayhurst; a sister-in-law Jeanne Hayhurst. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Memorial visitation will be at Bundy-Law Funeral Home on Saturday, April 5, 2025 from 11 am to 1 pm with a memorial service beginning at 1 pm. Rev. Nancy Parsons will officiate.
