Obituary

John D. Atkinson, age 87 of Cambridge, passed away early on Thursday, March 18, 2010 at his home. He was born on November 26, 1922 in Cambridge, a son of the late Paul F. Atkinson and Neva I. Daugherty Atkinson.
Mr. Atkinson was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church in Cambridge. He served his country in the U.S. Army during W.W.II where he received many medals including two Purple Hearts and four Bronze Stars. He was a life member of: the V.F.W. Post 2901; the American Legion Post 84; and the Combat Infantry Association; and a member of the Guernsey Lodge #66 F&AM and the Scottish Rite Valley of Cambridge.
John retired from Western & Southern Life Insurance Company, he worked there from 1961 to 1988.
Married on March, 14, 1947 to his wife Jean W. Atkinson of the home. Also surviving are: a daughter, Mrs. Thomas Peggy Brill of Cambridge; a son Jay and Linda Atkinson of Cambridge; six grandchildren, Sheri Atkinson, Scott Jennifer Atkinson, Daniel Kim Atkinson, Mark Megan Atkinson, Thomas Jodi Brill and Kristina Mike Swank; nine great grandchildren, J.T. Swank, Allie, Joshua, Morgan, Kenzie and Nick Atkinson, Tommy, Katie and Michael Brill.
John was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister.
Visitation will be on Friday, March 19, 2010 from 5 to 8 pm at Bundy-Law Funeral Home. Masonic Services will be held at 7 pm. The funeral service will be on Saturday, March 20, 2010 at 10 am. Rev. Sturman Moore and Rev. Virginia Geiger will officiate the service with burial following in Northwood Cemetery. Military Graveside rites will be conducted by the Guernsey County Veterans Council.
