John T. Tolbert, age 78 of Cincinnati, formerly of Cambridge, passed away on Sunday, September 18, 2022 at Mercy Health -West Hospital in Cincinnati surrounded by his loving family. He was born on December 13, 1943 in Cambridge, a son of the late Clarence Tolbert and Katherine E. (Kulick)Tolbert.
John is a 1962 graduate of St. Benedict's High School and Columbus Drafting College in 1969. He served in the U.S. Army from 1964-67 with radio relay and carrier operator training at Fort Gordon, Georgia. Then he was stationed in Germany for two and a half years.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Cambridge and had served on the session and worship committee. He worked at Industrial Nucleonics in Columbus for two years until he and Cheryl moved back to Cambridge. John worked at NCR for eighteen years. Then John was a printed wiring board designer engineer at L3 Communications, Cincinnati Electronics for eighteen years. One of his most interesting projects was designing the printed circuit board for the transmitter/receiver on the Mars Rover. He enjoyed reading, walking, following Ohio State football & basketball, spending time with family & friends, and building and flying radio control planes. John especially enjoyed teaching his grandson, Jason, how to fly the planes this past summer.
John is survived by: his wife of 54 years, Cheryl (Alexander) Tolbert; their children, Brenda (& Jeff) Olsen and John A. Tolbert; a grandson, Jason Olsen; his siblings, Helen (& Roger) Gotcher of Cambridge, Jeannie (& Jerry) Schehl of Byesville, Angela Kirk of Lewis Center, George (& Lori) Tolbert of Cambridge and Joseph (& Connie) Tolbert of Cambridge; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Clarence Tolbert and Katherine E. (Kulick) Tolbert.
Visitation will take place at Bundy-Law Funeral Home on Saturday, October 1, 2022 from 10am to 11am with his funeral service beginning at 11am. Pastor Jeff Bergeson will officiate the service with burial to follow in Guernsey Memory Gardens Cemetery. Military Graviside Honors will be conducted by the Guernsey County Veterans Council.
