Obituary

Junior Sherwood Simmons, born Louis William Simmons, passed away January 15, 2024 at Riverside Methodist Hospital at the age of 82. Junior was born April 24, 1941 in Valley Head, WV. Growing up he attended Webster Springs High School. He had two sisters Lindell Keene (dec) and Barbara McLaughlin and was known in his family for being thoughtful, kind, and willing to do anything for anyone. He was especially kind to his mother, Wilma Schaaf (dec).
Junior shared over forty years of love and laughter with his wife, Helen Starcher Simmons. He was always by her side as an encourager and supporter. They were married January 3, 1995 and even as they aged, he made certain to offer his affection and never failed to keep a promise or show up for her. Junior and Helen encouraged each other in their Christian faith and attended Salem Baptist Church. Together they shared adventures all over the United States as Junior's work as a welder often moved them about. Working out of UA Local 495 Plumbers & Pipefitters Union in Cambridge, OH, for many years Junior worked on many interesting projects, including the repair of the World Trade Towers, after the 1993 terrorist attack. He was known by many as a hard and dedicated worker, even keeping busy around his land and home through his final days.
In his spare time Junior was an avid hunter and fisherman. He shared time with friends annually on hunting trips deep into the mountains, taken by horse drawn sled. He also enjoyed keeping management of the wildlife around his property and in his pond at home. He was always happy to share his knowledge of rifles and hunting with anyone who wanted to learn and created many happy memories for those who came to fish his pond.
Junior also had a step-son, Clayton Rudd, Jr. (dec); a daughter-in-law Lee Ann Rudd ; a granddaughter, Candace Rudd Riddle; and a great-grandson, U.S.M.A CDT Kade Riddle, who he was especially proud of. He also had several nieces and nephews, of whom, he was the favorite uncle. To his immediate family Junior will be remembered as a man with the answers, a fixer of all things, and a man with a quick whit who offered suggestions for pranks and bouts of laughter.
The ornery twinkle that often occupied his blue eyes, below his thick, dark, bushy eyebrows will not soon be forgotten by all of those who loved him.
Visitation will be at Bundy-Law Funeral Home on Saturday January 20, 2024 from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Funeral home, with the burial following at Harmony Christian Church Cemetery.
