Obituary

Karen Sue (Suzie) Treier, age 82 of Cambridge, passed away on Monday, August 19, 2024. Karen was born on September 9, 1941 in Findlay, Ohio, first daughter of the late Vern (Dutch) and Betty (Steegman) Huffman. She graduated from Findlay High School in 1959, one year after her high school sweetheart, Max – they met on the marching band field, which would connect them the rest of their lives.

Karen was a lifelong secretary with a wicked shorthand, first working in the College of Law and the Athletic Department of The Ohio State University to help provide for their young family during Max's college years, with Cambridge City Schools, with the Guernsey County Probate Court, and then for many years with the Guernsey County Health Department in the Family Planning Unit. Karen loved collecting Cambridge Glass and in her later years volunteered as a tour guide at the National Museum of Cambridge Glass. Karen was the quintessential "Band Mom" who's purse was as big as Mary Poppins' bag. She supported the Cambridge High School bands and its students for decades and in more recent years she supported and traveled with the Worthington Community Band, including on its trips to Australia, Hawaii, Ireland, Scotland, Italy, Greece, Spain and Portugal. She also traveled with her granddaughters' choirs in Austria, Germany, Luxembourg, France, and Switzerland, and loved her many visits to New York City.

Karen was sneaky smart, a voracious reader, and a very savvy Euchre player. She had hidden talents in ceramics and furniture refinishing – spending countless hours recovering family heirlooms. She loved her front porch and the beach, with her feet in the sand. Most of all, Karen loved her family.

Karen leaves behind her beloved husband of 65 years, Max W. Treier, her sister Mary Jo (Mike) Cox of Warsaw, Indiana, son Bret (Diane) Treier of Akron, daughter Melissa Treier (Steve Norris) of Manhattan, granddaughters Allyse (Mac) Love, and Haley (Dan) Sloan, and four great-grandchildren, Oliver and Gemma Love, and Sadie and Austin Sloan.
