Kay Louise (Watters) Edwards, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 18, 2024, at the age of 86. She was born on May 9, 1938, in Oberlin, Ohio, the daughter of Florence Clodwick and H. Robert Watters. Kay's journey through life was marked by compassion, unwavering faith, and an indomitable spirit that touched the hearts of everyone she met.
On December 23, 1959, in Wellington, Ohio, Kay married the love of her life, Claude L. Edwards, Jr., in a ceremony that embodied their deep commitment to each other. When newly married, they first moved to Maine when Claude, Jr. was serving in the Air Force and then later they decided to move their young family to Guernsey County in 1973. Together, they built a family that became the cornerstone of Kay's existence.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude, Jr., her parents, a sister Shirley Watters, her brothers William Watters, Sr. and Robert Watters, and her daughter-in-law, Kelly Edwards.
Kay is survived by: her sisters, Sue Clark of Oxford, Ohio and Bonnie (Dan) Jordan of Sullivan, Ohio; her sister-in-law Barbara Watters of Wellington, Ohio; her devoted children: Laura Edwards Conrad and her husband Dino Conrad, Kenneth (Joy) Edwards, and David Edwards and his wife Kate, all of Cambridge, Ohio. Her legacy lives on through her grandchildren: Myra (Jeffrey) Scheurer, Sarah (Robert) Dunlap, Ryan (Renee) Enos, Cassandra (Anthony) Shaum, Kenneth (Tonya) Edwards, Jessica (Audrey) Layne, Timothy (Kaylyn) Edwards, and Claudia (Clyde Ely, III) Conrad, as well as her great-grandchildren, Teagan, Caisen, Sawyer, Alexander, Kolton, Taryn, Cooper, Felix, Shayne, Hadley, and Clark. Each of them held a special place in her heart and she cherished every moment spent with them.
Kay was a proud graduate of Wellington High School and the Akron School of Nursing, where she achieved her degree in Nursing. Kay dedicated over 40 years of her life to the noble profession of nursing. She served as a Registered Nurse at Akron General, Southeastern Med, Guernsey County Health Department, and The Beckett House, where she was known not only for her strong work ethic but also for her ability to connect with her patients on a personal level. Kay was a true advocate for those in her care, providing comfort and support to everyone she encountered.
Kay's strong Christian faith was a guiding light throughout her life. As a member of Kimbolton United Methodist Church, she was actively involved in teaching Sunday School to the youth and sharing her voice in the church choir. Her faith was interwoven with her passion for gardening and crafting, hobbies that brought her joy and allowed her to express her creativity.
Known affectionately as "Grandma Kay," she embodied the spirit of a storybook grandmother. Always ready for a chat or a snack, she created a warm and welcoming home filled with love and laughter. Kay took great pride in making memories with her family, sharing stories, and imparting wisdom that will be cherished for generations to come. Her ability to genuinely care for others and take an interest in their lives made her a beloved figure not only within her family but also within her community.
Kay's family finds comfort in knowing that she is now at peace, reunited with her loved ones who preceded her. As they carry her spirit in their hearts, they vow to continue her legacy of love, compassion, and faith.
