Obituary

M. Rex Pennington
May 17, 1937 - March 7, 2026
M. Rex Pennington, 88, of Cambridge, passed away peacefully in his home on March 7, 2026. He was born on May 17, 1937, in Keokee, Virginia, to the late Ezra and Eliza Pennington.
Rex dedicated many years of service to Cambridge State Hospital, where he worked as a security guard in the hospital's fire department before retiring. He was a member of Mount Hermon Presbyterian Church.
A man who truly loved the outdoors and the simple joys of life, Rex spent many years tending his farm and caring for his cattle. He took pride in being involved in 4-H with his children and spent many years attending the Guernsey County Fair. Rex also enjoyed hunting and playing softball and was an enthusiastic supporter of his grandchildren's sporting events.
The grandkids played many sports, and he loved all but lacrosse often left him puzzled. Those who knew Rex can still hear him saying with a shake of his head, "Gosh dog it! Who can see that little ball?"
In retirement, Rex especially enjoyed taking drives to the Amish country with his beloved wife, Kay-often just for the ride and, of course, a good home-cooked meal. He also treasured the time spent visiting with his lunch buddies at the Trail Family Diner in Cambridge.
Rex is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Kay (Lawrence) Pennington; his daughter, Melinda Warner; his son, Richard Pennington (Julie Urdak); and his daughter, Melissa (Aaron) Zamensky. He was a proud and devoted grandfather to nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by his brother, Bob Pennington of Keokee, Virginia, along with many beloved nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Rex was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Wayne Warner, and 12 brothers and sisters.
Rex and Kay were fortunate to live in a neighborhood that felt more like family, and Rex shared many lasting friendships and wonderful memories with those around him.
The family is deeply grateful to all who took the time to visit Rex and offer their kindness, comfort, and support during his final days.
Calling hours will be held at Bundy-Law Funeral Home in Cambridge, Ohio, on Thursday, March 12, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. A funeral service will immediately follow, with a graveside service at Northwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Guernsey County in recognition of the exemplary care and compassion they provided. Rex's online tribute wall and guest book may be viewed and signed at www.bundy-lawfuneralhome.com .
