Paul B. Linton, 101, passed away peacefully on June 18, 2024, at his daughter's home, in Travelers Rest, South Carolina. Prior to his 6 year residency in South Carolina, his roots were in Ashland ,OH for over 50 years. He born was November 1, 1922, at home, in Barnesville OH to the late E.B. and Lela (Cline) Linton.
Surviving are three daughters, Paula (John Marcy, recently deceased) of South Pasadena, Florida, Roberta Linton of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, and Karla (Jim Pratt) of Travelers Rest, South Carolina.
He has 7 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and sister-in-law, Elizabeth Kelly.
Proceeding him in death is his beloved wife of 61 years, Lillian (Matz); and his brothers, John Linton and Robert Linton.
He spent his younger years in Newark OH, and moved to Akron, OH during his High school years; graduating West High in 1940. Paul worked for the B&O Railroad after High School.
In 1942 he enlisted in the Army Air Force. During WWII, he served with the 38Th Heavy Bomb Squad in the South Pacific, stationed on Saipan; a tail gunner on a B-24 ("My Baby") during the battle of Iwo Jima and received three bronze stars among other awards. Upon his separation from the AAF in 1945, Paul went full-time to Akron University on the GI Bill while working at BF Goodrich. He graduated in 1951 with a BS in Electrical Engineering and became Registered Professional Engineer, and a member in the American Institute of Electrical Engineers.
Paul worked for Ohio Edison (First Energy), holding various Engineering positions in the Akron General Office, before transferring to the Ashland-Mansfiled Division. He retired from Ohio Edison as the Superintendent of Transmission and Distribution, with 36 years of service. He loved his job and made many friends, especially "The Live Wires", a tight knit group that stayed together well past retirement years. They met monthly for cards, meals and general good cheer. The group also went on many cruises, bus trips, and various site seeing adventures.
Vacations were spent visiting relatives and going to "camp" with the family. Paul also enjoyed sailing in the local Ohio lakes after work with his wife, and taking his sailboat on vacations. They also 'wintered' at their home in St. Pete Florida, where they had many merry and joyful family Christmases.
Paul always had a 'building/fixing' project around the house….and generously provided a helping hand to others. His quick wit and dry humor made him an excellent/mischievous card player. ….And we must not forget Paul's love for an occasional Martini and Cigar!
Visitation will be Thursday, June 27, 2024 from 11 am to 11:30 am at Quaker City Methodist Church at 60 West Main Street, Quaker City 43773. Services will begin at 11:30 am.
