Roger W. Bates, age 92 of Winterset passed away on Saturday, May 27, 2023 at his home. He was born on July 11, 1930 in Noble County, a son of the late W. Harley Bates and Ellen (Warner) Bates.
Roger was a former member of Pisgah Church of Christ and a current member of The New Concord Church of Christ. Mr. Bates served his country in the U.S. Air Force. He worked and retired from Shelly & Sands as a superintendent and was also a superintendent for the Guernsey County Highway Department. He was a past president of the PERI, and a teacher's aide at Madison Elementary School. Roger was awarded the Guernsey County Caregiver Of The Year in 2010 with his wife Alberta.
He is survived by: his wife of almost 64 years, Alberta J. (Dodd) Bates; their children, Kevin (& Misti) Bates, Keith (& Susan) Bates and Jo Ellen (& Dan) Starr; grandchildren, Kyle (& Becca) Bates, Amanda ( & Nick) Warnock, Jessie (& Jeremy) Hall, Luke (& Alyssa) Bates, Daniel (& Olivia) Starr, Jenny Allen, Wendy (& Josh) Wynn, Jacob Starr, Annie (& Ethan) Gadd and Sarah Starr; great -grandchildren, Bailey Jennings, Payton Hall, Easton Hall, Ella Hall, Leah Hall, Dylan Sims, Hayden Bates, Haylee Bates, Dane Allen, Brylee Allen, Aly Bates, Quinn Bates, Reese Wynn, Rhett Wynn, Parker Wynn and Hunter Starr; several brothers and sisters- in law; and nieces and nephews.
Roger is preceded in death by: his parents; a great-granddaughter Reagan Jennings; and his brothers, Robert Bates, Jim Bates and Franklin Bates.
Visitation will be at Bundy-Law Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 30, 2023 from 3 pm to 7 pm. His funeral service will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, May 31, 2023 with Evangelist Terry Townsend officiating. Burial will follow in Friends Cemetery, Quaker City.
