Obituary

Roger Lee Whaley, age 75, of Cambridge, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 9th, 2023 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on July 11, 1947 in Steubenville, Ohio, son of the late Ellsworth and Ruby (Stoneking) Whaley. Mr Whaley enlisted into the United States Army in 1965 at the age of eighteen and graduated from basic training in Fort Hood, Texas. He served in the Vietnam War, stationed a Camranh Bay. In 1969 he was honorably discharged from the United States Army in Fort Irwin, California.
After his years of service, he worked most of his career as a crane operator for Shield Alloy, until he retired in 2009. Mr. Whaley was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post 2901. He was also a member of United Steel Workers Local 5050.
He enjoyed ginseng hunting, fishing, trapping, campfires in his backyard, bird watching from his front porch, spending time with his family and friends at GKL in Mingo Junction, Ohio, road-trips with his grandson Joey and family vacations.
Roger was preceded in death by his sisters, Joan Lamp and his brothers, Donald Whaley and Robert Whaley.
Roger is survived by Sandra (Millward) Whaley his adoring wife of 57 years, who he married on March 22, 1966, two sons Kevin (Jennifer) Whaley and Roger (Lisa) Whaley of Cambridge, Ohio, grandchildren, Austin (Somer Yoho) Whaley of San Antonio, Texas, Allison (Adam) Masinelli of West Lafayette, Ohio, Jake (Megan) Whaley of Greensboro, North Carolina, Joey Whaley of Cambridge, Ohio, Steven (Jenna) Whaley of London, England, Jessica (Mark) Hagar of Sarasota, Florida, Madison Whaley of Cambridge, Ohio and Kaden Whaley of Cambridge, Ohio, step-grandchildren, Nicholas, Nathan, Wyatt and Ella of Cambridge, Ohio, Great grandchildren Carsyn and Cori Masinelli of West Lafayette, Ohio, Emma and Ellie Hagar of Sarasota, Florida, Jaxon and Stella Whaley of London, England and Rylin Whaley of Cambridge, Ohio, sisters, Cheryl Lynn (Dave) Barrick and Jannette Nelson of Tyler, West Virginia, several nieces and nephews and Hank, his beloved dog, who laid beside him until his last day.
Visitation will be Monday, February 13, 2023 at Bundy-Law Funeral Home from 4 pm to 8 pm. Services will be at 11 am on Tuesday also at Bundy-Law with Dave Barrick officiating. Burial will follow in Guernsey Memory Gardens with Military Graveside Rites conducted by the Guernsey County Veterans Council.
