Stephen Ray Hinson, 72, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Saturday, June 27, 2026.
Born on December 23, 1953, Cambridge, Ohio, Stephen was the son of Donald R. Hinson and Rosa Bernadine Hawkins Watson. On August 1, 1975 he married the love of his life, Betty Ann Kenworthy. Together they shared over 50 years and built a life centered on faith, family, and hard work, raising three children.
Stephen is survived by his beloved wife; his children, Amanda (Aaron) Shaffer, Joseph (Jessica) Hinson, and Robert (Alicia) Hinson; his cherished grandchildren, Brody (Brooklyn), Chrissy (Luke), Dakota, Taylor, Carson and Emma; his sisters, Carol Hunter and Nancy (James) Latchic; his brother-in-law, William (Bonnie) Kenworthy; several beloved nieces, nephews, extended family. In addition to his family he leave behind a cherished neighbor and dear friend Connie Wells, many friends, farming buddies, fellow church members, and members of the Green Acres 4-H community who were blessed to know him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald Hinson and Rosa Bernadine Watson; his stepfather, Howard Watson; his father- and mother-in-law, Paul “Johnny”; and Grace Kenworthy; and a brother-in-law, Montie Hunter.
Stephen was a graduate of the 1972 Zane Trace High School. He worked at Patterson Meat Market, Salt Fork State Park in the Garage Dept, he hauled fuel for his parent’s business, Quaker State, then JT Sands, and B.P. He was a masonry until he was hired by Detroit Diesel where he retired from after 21+years of dedicated service. He was a faithful member of Mt. Hermon Presbyterian Church as he served as a trustee and on the governing board. He was a member of the Cassell Station VFD for numerous years.
He devoted nearly 50 years as an advisor for the Green Acres 4-H Club. He was a member of the Farm Bureau. He served as Cemetery Sexton for many years for Knox Twp. His commitment to the 4-H program reflected his lifelong passion for agriculture and his desire to instill that passion into future generations. He loved helping the Guernsey County Fair board with mowing maintenance and being a shuttle driver during the county fair and the Paul Bunyan Show.
Stephen’s life was a reflection of the values he held closest to his heart. His priorities were always clear: first, his faith in God; second, his family; and third, the farming. He found joy in working the land, caring for his animals, watching his children and grandchildren learn the hard work of farming.
Though his passing was sudden, the impact of his life will endure for generations. His legacy of faith, love, hard work, and service will continue through his family and all whose lives were enriched by knowing him. He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever held in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Visitation will be held at Bundy-Law Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 30, 2026 from 4pm to 8pm, and on Wednesday, July 1, from 10am to 11am with services beginning at 11am. Pastor Jim Gibson and Mike McCauley will officiate the service with burial following in Mt. Hermon Cemetery. Steve’s online guest book and tribute wall may be viewed and signed at www.bundy-lawfuneralhome.com.
The family asks that Stephen be remembered not only for the life he lived but for the values he shared, faith in God, devotion to family, and a love for farming that defined who he was.
In Lieu of flowers donation may be made in his memory to the Green Acres 4-H club C/O Jim Gibson at 68340 Mt. Hermon Rd. Cambridge Ohio 43725.
“Well done, good and faithful servant. Your work on earth is finished; your harvest in Heaven has begun.”
