Obituary

William H. Hartley 85 of Cambridge, passed away Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at Select Specialty Hospital in Zanesville. He was born in Quaker City on February 18, 1926, a son of the late William H. Hartley Sr. and Agnes (Wardeska) Hartley.

Mr. Hartley served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corp, he was the owner operator of Hartley Oil Company. He was a member of the Kimbolton United Methodist Church where he was a certified lay leader, a former chairman of the board of the trustees, Pastor-Parish Committee, Sunday School teacher, and has served on the finance committee and administrative board. Hartley is also active in the Cambridge Lodge 66 F&AM, Cambridge Chapter 53, Royal Arch Masons, Guernsey Council 74, Royal and Select masters, Cambridge Commandery 47, Knights Templer, Scottish Rite, Valley of Cambridge, and Aladdin Temple Shrine. He is also the past president and secretary of Kambri Shrine, and Honorary 33 Degree Mason, AASR Supreme Council, NMJ, St. Jerome Conclave and the Knight of Red Cross of Constantine.

He received the Distinguished Citizen Award from the Muskingum Valley Council, Boy Scouts of America. Bill has held many community positions including: serving on the Y.M.C.A. board, the Guernsey County Chamber of Commerce board, and Guernsey Memorial Hospital board and past president of Kiwanis. He is also chairman and director of Cambridge Savings and Loan Association, served on the board of the Camco Financial Corp. and the Ohio Rapid Transit board in Columbus. Some of Bill's hobbies included boating, fishing and studying and speaking the Christian message.

Bill leaves: his wife, Ruth (Cash) Hartley they married on July 8, 1946; their sons, William H. (Twila) Hartley III and Thomas (Sheri) Hartley both of Cambridge; six grandchildren, Doug Hartley, Cheryl (Mark) Adkins, Debbie Hartley, Kimberly (Jeff) Litvak, Eric R. (Jessica) Johnson, and Sara (Robert) Allen; and nine great grandchildren.

Visitation will be at Bundy-Law Funeral Home on Friday, January 27, 2012 from 6 to 9 pm. with a Masonic Service held at 7:30pm. The funeral service will be on Saturday, January 28, 2012 at 2 pm. with visitation an hour prior from 1 to 2 pm. Rev. Paul Gerycz officiating. Burial will follow in Northwood Cemetery.
